MTV’s True Life: I’m on Adderall

I just watched this doc on MTV and was not impressed. I was expecting to see an Intervention-style story with some drama like prostituting for drugs and people living on the street, but at their worst these people were thin and over-productive. In other words, the effects the subjects saw as negative were, in my eyes, positive effects. Way to go MTV, you just encouraged people to WANT to be an Adderall.
It would have been better if they showed what it is really like: strung-out college overachivers who have panic attacks when it is time to do their papers and staying up all night chain-smoking on the drug. And chatting non-stop, which is what I have seen from users. Seeing someone on Adderall is much like seeing someone on cocaine, and they didn’t show any of the paranoid energy that is common with users. They also didn’t show how it is effective for those who truly need it, but for those who don’t need it, it stops being effective and that person needs to take more and more to feel “high” for the first time. Those who truly need it for attention/mood disorders don’t chase the high, and if they feel high when taking it, they should probably tell their doctor who would most likely prescribe a lower dosage for them.
I think more research needs to be done on the long-term effects of the drug also; unlike heroin, alcohol, and cocaine abuse, there are no long-term studies (like 20-plus years) on the effects of use. This is probably because the drug is fairly new, but still, that would be interesting to see. You know what that study would show?

Very skinny, borderline shizophrenic old people with massive wrinkles from staying up all night. But they would be skinny, borderline shizophrenic people either with law degrees or six-figure incomes.

Better example: This crackhead, who talks for three straight minutes about random shit. He also says in the beginning he says Adderall makes him “not want to talk”. Dude you have been talking for 3 minutes
